Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for a Commercial Pilot certificate, you must be at least 18 years of age (at the time of checkride) and read, speak and understand the English language. In addition, students will be required to pass an aeronautical knowledge test; and meet the flight proficiency and aeronautical experience in accordance with FAA Commercial Pilot certificate requirements .
Prerequisites
- 245 hours total time as pilot.
- 95 hours in powered aircraft of which 45 hours must be in an airplane.
- 95 hours pilot in command time of which 45 hours must be in an airplane.
- 50 hours cross-country flight time as pilot in command, 10 hours of which must be in an airplane.
- 15 hours of dual training after completion of a private pilot certificate to include:
- One 2-hour daytime cross-country flight in a single-engine airplane with a 100nm (straight-line distance) from the original point of departure.
- One 2-hour nighttime cross-country flight in a single-engine airplane with a 100nm (straight-line distance) from the original point of departure.
- 10 hours of instrument training, 5 hours of which must be in an single-engine airplane.
- 10 hours solo flight time or 10 hours performing the duties as pilot in command with an authorized flight instructor, in a single-engine airplane to include:
- One cross-country flight of not less than 300nm total distance, with a minimum landing at three points, one point of which is at least 250nm (straight-line distance) from the original departure point.
- 5 hours night VFR with 10 takeoffs and 10 landings (each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport with an operating control tower.

What if I don't meet all the prerequisites needed to start the commercial pilot course?
You can start a Commercial Pilot course with none, some or all of the prerequisites. Having the prerequisites completed prior to coming helps accelerate your flight training; however, these are flights that may be combined with some of the included training. Any prerequisite not met only means that additional flight training and/or time building is required at additional costs.
Can I still complete a commercial pilot course without an instrument rating?
Yes. However, per part 61.133(b)(1), a person who applies for a commercial pilot certificate and does not hold an instrument rating in the same category and class will be issued a commercial pilot certificate that contains the limitations: "The carriage of passengers for hire in (airplanes) on cross-country flights in excess of 50 nautical miles or at night is prohibited." The limitation is removed once the pilot accomplishes his/her instrument rating.
I started a commercial pilot training course at another flight school, can I continue my training with Advanced Charter Instruction LLC?
Yes. We will review your previous flight training and experience, and design a course outline that will allow you to complete your commercial pilot certificate.
I already have my private pilot certificate with a multi-engine class, do I have to do a commercial pilot single-engine before getting a commercial pilot multi-engine certificate?
No. If you have a private pilot certificate with a multi-engine class and wish to accomplish a commercial pilot multi-engine certificate, you may do so. Please give us a call so that we may design a course outline that will best suit your aviation goals.
