What does it take to become a Private Pilot?

Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for a Private Pilot certificate, you must be at least 17 years of age (at the time of checkride) and read, speak and understand the English language. In addition, students will be required to pass an aeronautical knowledge test; and meet the flight proficiency and aeronautical experience in accordance with FAA Private Pilot certificate requirements.

30.0 | *Recieve and log flight proficiency and aeronautical experience training from a Certified Flight Instructor to include pre/post flight instruction. |
10.0 | *Student pilot solo and aeronautical experience flights. |
30.0 | "Optional" Ground instruction course in the knowledge areas of Private Pilot including FAA written test. |
2.0 | Aircraft rental for the flight portion of the practical test (checkride). Approximately 2.0 hours for the flight portion of the checkride. |

What will I need to get started?
You will need to bring a government issued picture identification and proof of US citizenship (US passport or birth certificate). If you are a non-US citizen please give us a call and review the international students section of our website.
How soon may I start private pilot training in Orange County, CA?
For students that are US citizens or foreign students with TSA approval may start training immediately. If you are a non-US citizen you must obtain TSA clearance prior to training. TSA approval usually takes approximately 5-7 days. Please give us a call to assist in the TSA application process.
What books and/or supplies will I need?
When you schedule your initial training we will provide you with a list of study materials and supplies that you will need to bring to each of your lessons.
How are the course fees paid?
There are a few options you can choose from on how you pay for the your training/course. You may pay for the course in full which will be disperse accordingly to best suite your training needs per lesson. Your other options are to pay incrementally for segments of the course or pay-as-you-go.
How quickly can I complete this course?
The Private Pilot course can be completed in as little as 27-30 days. However this is not a guaranteed completion time as individual skills, weather and other factors may extend training. Average student completion times are approximately 30 days.
